Master of Public Administration Program

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree prepares individuals for a career in public service. WVU’s Department of Public Administration offers the only internationally accredited MPA program in West Virginia. The MPA degree prepares individuals to work in government and nonprofit agencies to develop and implement public policies and programs.

The MPA program offers:

The MPA can be tailored to meet student’s professional interests through areas of emphasis, dual degree options, and flexibility in elective courses. These include:

Area of emphasis in Healthcare Administration that includes courses in healthcare organizations and operations, healthcare finance, rural healthcare, managed care, health law and ethics, healthcare politics and policy issues.

Area of emphasis in Local Governance and Community Develpment that includes courses in community engagement, public planning, and sustainable community development.

Dual Degree MPA/MSW Combines social work and public administration to prepare individuals to serve in social service administration at the state and local level of government and nonprofit agencies.

Dual Degree MPA/JD Combines legal training and public administration knowledge to prepare individuals to serve as legal counsel for government and nonprofit agencies, court administrators, and city attorneys.
