The internship is a critical component of the MPA experience. It provides an opportunity for students to develop skills and learn from practical experiences. Additionally, interns make valuable contributions to the mission of the host organization and the constituents they serve.
MPA students must complete six credit hours of PUBA 751: Public Service Internship and complete 500 contact hours during the internship placement. The internship handbook provides specific information about the internship process.
MPA students work closely with their academic advisor and the MPA internship coordinator to identify internship opportunities. Students may complete their internship during one semester or over two or more semesters. Recent internship sites include the Smithsonian Institution, Department of Veterans Affairs, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and NASA. A complete list of internship placements from 2010-2016 is available here.
