The West Virginia University Department of Public Administration and the City of Morgantown hosted a group of 25 Ukrainian local government officials who are traveling from the annual conference of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) in Nashville to Washington, D.C. Their first stop was in Frankfort, Kentucky, where they learned about municipal government, economic development, tourism, and farmers markets. Morgantown is their next stop, October 26-29.
The group is participating in the Decentralization Offering Better Results and
Efficiency (DOBRE) Fellows program (an acronym which means “good” in Ukrainian). This partnership between USAID and ICMA organizes global exchange opportunities for peer-to-peer learning. ICMA members Margaret Stout, Associate Professor of Public Administration and Paul Brake, City Manager of the City of Morgantown were asked to design and organize the visit. Skylar Braithwaite, City of Morgantown Management Fellow and WVU MPA student, was tasked with coordinating the activities.
