Master of Legal Studies.                              30 credit hours.                               18 months.

Make a difference in the world around you with a graduate degree in legal studies. The Master of Legal Studies is a 30-hour online program, which can be completed in 18 months.  It is designed for professionals practicing in human relations, criminal and juvenile justice, the court system, journalism, social work, regulatory agencies, county and municipal government, military, business and other professionals who work with, though not necessarily in, the legal system.  It is neither a “pre-law” program nor a paralegal program. It does not prepare graduates to practice law.

The MLS curriculum requires 30 credit hours for completion with 21 credit hours of required courses and 9 hours of elective courses when you choose an area of emphasis in Justice Systems, Homeland Security or Health Care.  Students who choose to follow a general curriculum will also complete 21 credit hours of required courses and 9 credit hours of electives.  Click here to visit the WVU Catalog for an overview of the MLS curriculum, including a list of required and elective courses.

The program is designed to accommodate mid-career professionals who are employed full-time. The program is offered completely online with no residency requirement, allowing students to earn a master’s degree while also balancing work and family.
