Internship
The internship is a critical component of the MPA experience. It provides an opportunity for students to develop skills and learn from practical experiences. Additionally, interns make valuable contributions to the mission of the host organization and the constituents they serve.
MPA students must complete three credit hours of PUBA 751: Public Service Internship and complete 360 contact hours during the internship placement. The Internship Handbook 2023-2024 provides specific information about the internship process.
MPA students work closely with their academic advisor and the MPA internship coordinator to identify internship opportunities. Students may complete their internship during one semester or over two or more semesters. Recent internship sites include the Smithsonian Institution, Department of Veterans Affairs, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and NASA.
